Supporting Recovery After Rain: Gilbert Road Bushcare Group Update

The Kedron Brook Catchment Branch extends our appreciation to dedicated volunteers of Gilbert Road Bushcare Group for their efforts at their working bee on Sunday 30th March 2025. Despite challenging conditions following heavy rainfall, team worked to straighten trees and remove weeds both at their planting site and in adjacent council-planted section along Kedron Brook.

The plants are thriving, showing resilience through summer’s wet weather, even if some are still a little crooked! These “babies” are well on their way, and more favorable growing weather ahead, we’re excited to see their continued progress.

It was great to meet and welcome our new Brisbane City Council, Creek Catchment Officer, Cerae, especially as working bee was her first day in new role!

Please note that Gilbert Road Bushcare Group has decided to cancel their April working bee due to long weekend, as many volunteers will be unavailable.

Looking ahead, once Brook dries out and conditions are right—likely in next week when toads begin laying their eggs—group plans to set tadpole traps to manage this invasive species. Stay tuned for updates on this initiative.

Well done and thanks to all who stepped in to lend a hand!
