Last night 15 enthusiastic people attended KBCB Northside Squirrel Glider Monitoring Project Spotlighting Night Walk.
For just over 2 1/2 hours we traversed Boondall Western Extension Bushland Reserve enjoying humidity and mosquitos while we searched for elusive Squirrel Glider!
Along way we spotted:
- Common Brushtail Possum (5)
- Striped Marsh Frog (heard)
- Forest Kingfisher
- Lesser Wanderer Butterfly
- Monarch Butterfly
- Tailed Emporor Butterfly
- plenty of grasshoppers-toads-spiders
- Tawny Frogmouth (4)
- Common Ringtail Possum
- and finally… during last 50m of walk… Damian White (our ecologist leading walk) spotted a Squirrel Glider! (pictured)
After being told earlier in week a recent study in Brisbane Entertainment Centre had not found any squirrel gliders, we were so excited to come across this little one at edge of reserve. The glider didn’t seem to be bothered as it started to preen and groom itself as we watched on from below!
